Harling Security designs, manufactures, installs and maintains perimeter security for commercial and industrial sites across the UK. Because we make our own gates, fencing and barriers, every system is built for your site rather than adapted from an off-the-shelf range.
For more than 20 years we’ve protected distribution warehouses, offices, hospitals, retail units, hotels and public-sector sites, for clients including Scottish Power, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Bulgari Hotel London, Lockheed Martin and Luton Borough Council.
Security-rated gates and fencing: SR1, SR2 and SR3
When a site needs proven resistance to forced entry, our Hercules security-rated gates are certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8 at A1 (SR1), B3 (SR2) and C5 (SR3), and to Secured by Design. They come as sliding, swing and bi-folding gates, with matching security fencing so the whole perimeter holds the same rating. Not sure which level you need? Read our guide to choosing between SR1, SR2 and SR3.
Vehicle and pedestrian access control
Automatic gates, barriers and turnstiles decide who enters your site and when. We connect them to card and fob readers, keypads, intercoms and ANPR, so vehicle and pedestrian access is managed from one system. We can also automate existing gates.
Preparing for Martyn’s Law
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn’s Law, will apply to publicly accessible premises expecting 200 or more people, with enhanced duties at 800 or more. The government has committed to an implementation period of at least 24 months from Royal Assent in April 2025. Hercusafe, our integrated lockdown, invacuation and emergency-communication system, helps sites prepare. Read our Martyn’s Law guide.
Maintenance that keeps powered gates safe
Automated gates and barriers must be kept in a safe condition so they present no risk to the public. Our service and maintenance packages cover our own products and other manufacturers’ equipment. We hold Gate Safe (Premier Aware Installer) and DHF accreditations.

Commercial security FAQs
What security rating does my site need?
LPS 1175 ratings combine a tool category and a delay time. A1 (SR1) resists an attacker with basic tools for at least one minute, B3 (SR2) a wider tool set for three minutes, and C5 (SR3) heavier tools for five minutes. Most commercial sites choose SR1 or SR2; high-value or critical sites usually need SR3. We’ll recommend a level after a site survey.
Can you automate our existing gates?
Often, yes. After a survey we’ll confirm whether your gates can be safely automated or need replacing.
Do automatic gates legally need maintaining?
Owners of powered gates have a legal duty to keep them safe, which in practice means regular servicing and safety checks by a competent engineer. See our automatic gate safety checklist.
Does Martyn’s Law apply to my premises?
It applies to publicly accessible premises where 200 or more people can reasonably be expected at the same time. Below 200, the Act does not apply.
